On Call Communications and Intelsat Cover Michael Jacksonís Passing Using QuickSPOT IP Based Satellite News Gathering Service and Intelsatís Video Fiber Network

Foothill Ranch, California:  (July 1, 2009) On Call Communications and Intelsat sprung into action Thursday afternoon upon reports of Michael Jackson's hospitalization to provide crucial uplinks to television reporters from around the world at the multiple venues in the Los Angeles area.  Within hours of the first reports, On Call was on the scene assisting international news organizations with live coverage from Los Angeles back to their home countries such as Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and more.


On Call Communications provided the uplink vehicle and operating staff.  The uplink vehicle, outfitted with the QuickSPOT automated, IP based satellite news gathering system, allowed the news teams to be on air within minutes of arrival at Jackson's residence.   On Call's complete uplink services also included the HD-SDI/SD-SDI camera, a professional cameraman, IFB, Wi-Fi internet access, FTP and ENG kit.


The live feeds were delivered to Intelsat's Video Fiber Network.  Using their global network of satellites, fiber and teleports, Intelsat provided the end-to-end content delivery to the international destinations.

On September 3rd, Todd Ritchie and Ron Viste of WEAU (Eau Claire, WI) hosted Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) Chapter 112 of Western Wisconsin for their annual steak picnic, which provided a great opportunity for the station to showcase their new QuickSPOT vehicle.

On Call Communications sprung into action again in support of CBS News in Haiti providing live and taped video feeds, internet access and phone lines for their news teams covering the earthquake using the QuickSPOT satellite news gathering system.

The system transmitted both live and edited standard definition MPEG-4 video feeds for the producers in addition to establishing a mobile office complete with direct dial in/out phone lines and wireless internet access for email, web browsing and corporate communications .
